What do school chaplains do?
School chaplains are in the prevention and rescue business. They are a safe person for children to connect with at school, providing a listening ear, caring presence, and message of hope.
They’re helping students find a better way to deal with issues ranging from family breakdown and loneliness to drug abuse, stress and anxiety. They provide a listening ear and a caring presence for kids in crisis… and those who just need a friend. All have a passion to improve the lives of young people.
School Chaplains run positive, fun activities for children, both in and out of school, and foster a supportive, caring school community.
When you have a chaplain, you always know there’s a soft place for kids to fall. The chaplain supports everybody in the school community—students, parents and staff alike. Everybody needs to have someone they can go to.
How can you get involved?
Every school chaplaincy encourages partnership with local churches and communities. You can help by:
- volunteering to assist at school breakfasts, student groups, and other activities or events
- offering financial assistance
- praying for your school’s chaplaincy activities
- holding a fundraising event.
