Health and Physical Education

Wilsonton State School has a specialist Health and Physical Education (HPE) teacher, Mr Rob Edwards, who teaches weekly lessons for each class.

The school’s facilities include a multi-purpose hall, two tennis courts, two large ovals on the school premises and another which is detached from the school and a five lane 25m swimming pool. The school also has access to Captain Cook Sports Reserve which is a short walk from the school.

The school conducts a swimming carnival for Years 3–6 students and cross country and athletics carnivals for P–6. Nine to thirteen year old students (cross county 10 years) are eligible to represent the school to participate at Zone level.

Teaching programs are based on the Health and Physical Education School Curriculum Program. Wilsonton State School aims to develop concepts and skills for physical activity by providing meaningful learning experiences that inspire lifelong learning.

The Physical Education program covers the following areas:

·        aquatics

·        motor skills

·        track and field

·        ball skills

·        dance

·        games skills.

Inter-school sport

Years 5 and 6 students undertake Friday afternoon sport in Terms 1 and 3. This can take the form of both inter- and intra-school sport. This term our students have the opportunity to play rugby league, boys and girls soccer, hockey and netball.
